A "not cheesy" peter pan wedding would be an oxymoron.

Have one of those lights that shines a quote on the wall or dance floor that says "Second star to the right, and straight on ’til morning"

That’s my favorite quote from that movie!

And have "pixie dust" glitter all over the tables!

the theme of a wedding is marriage. themes are for kid’s bday parties only. grow up.

If you simply take the sugar-coated Disney film at face value, go for things that glitter, colorful exotic flowers, plenty of homestyle food, touches of nature and happy thoughts by the gallon. It depends if you are going by the book or the horrible Disney film adaptation. The underlying themes of death, racism and invincibility found throughout the Peter Pan and Wendy story may not be the best setting for a wedding.

    Good luck!

"Peter Pan and Wendy" by JM Barrie is one of my favorite pieces of Children’s Literature. I studied the text extensively in college and have written various papers pertaining to the themeatics and complexity of the story.

    1. Name your tables after settings or characters in the book
    2. Use Tiger Lily flowers and tropical plants
    3. Give it a twinkly evening look inside
    4. Have a crocodile subtly "guarding" the gift table
    5. Have a lantern with tinkerbell in it instead of a candle at the head table

Think of what you love about Peter Pan, list elements that stand out, then think of subtle ways that you can incorporate it. You don’t want to go over the top.

Hon, I don’t think "Peter Pan" will work for a wedding any more than "The Little Mermaid" or "Mickey and Minnie Mouse."

But if you must do a Peter Pan theme, you could make your wedding entrance flying on a wire, and give your guests some entertainment value. :-)

Any theme for a wedding is odd, but Peter Pan??? The boy who wouldn’t grow up??? What on earth??? That is the worst ever. I don’t see how this could ever work out well. I just don’t.

Lots of pixi dust (glitter) on the tables!
You can include different kinds of pirate ships as centerpieces with flowers coming out of it or something.
Have your romantic quotes be something like ‘you make my heart fly’…
I think there is going to be a level of ‘cheesy’ but its going to be a FUN kind of cheesy, and its obviously going to incorporate your personalities since you both are wanting to have this Peter Pan themed wedding. Have fun with it :)

Have the groom dress like Peter Pan, the groom’s man dress like the Lost Boys….you dress like Wendy & your MIL dress like Capt’ Hook…..or maybe Tic-Toc the crocodile….

Honestly, this is a wedding? It sounds like a 3 year old’s BD party…wow.

I think some of the feedback that you are getting is based on you saying that you are having an "all out" theme. You want the theme to help guide you in some of the choices you use for the decorations or other details. Subtle is the key. When your theme is all out and front and center, it takes all the attention. Instead of the attention being on you, the bride, the attention is on peter pan. You want the attention to be on you.

If I were to do a Peter Pan theme, I would incorporate it in subtle ways such as having some glitter sprinkled on the table near the center pieces; the cut of the flower girl’s dress resembling TinkerBell’s dress (but not bright green…just that it vaguely reminds you), the groom’s cake shaped like an alligator, and maybe tiger lilies in the bouquet. Listen to the sound track of Peter Pan and see if one of the songs could be played during your reception.

So you have some subtle Peter Pan elements that still keep the focus on you.

Weddings are a costumed production. Why not go all out and be obvious about the costuming. This wedding could be Wendy marries Peter Pan. Embrace your inner cheese with pride. Think of it as a staged event with fun being your main focus.

Check out Disney World or Disneyland for a destination wedding.

buy some garden lanturns and have a cut out image of tinkerbell stuck to the glass then place a candle inside it and the tinkerbell will show its a really good theme by the way.

have peter pan invites with the flying gold ship or tinkerbell (in gold) on the top of the invites.

have a forest type theme for the reception (name the tables after character ie the lost boys, peter, wendy, nanna., hook,
have pixie dust sprinkeled on the tables and floors. thats all i can think of sorry, oh have it candle light as well, that would be lovely. good luck

    Hmm….

I am having a hard time enthusiastically contributing to this question. I am hoping you are taking the more island approach with a touch of muted glitter/whimsical?..

You can name your place settings, areas and food choices after the lost boys or names of places in the book/ movie

you can use "pixie dust" on your flowers, place cards and table settings

you can evoke a sence of mystery and enchantment with soft dimmed LED lights strung
up glittering/ fading string lights and glittering taffeta draped along walls, pillars and doors

do something fun with the tree house idea, maybe a boardwalk stage for dancing or the main table setting complete with the thatched overhang

use the unique colors from the imagination dinner they had and create fun desserts with food coloring

tinkerbell is a hit with the girls, why not do a face painting booth for the kids that attend?

do pirate games/ events at the
reception like walk the plank( just tape a big peice of paper to the floor and draw " wood" lines on it, bobbing for apples, sword fights, "stomping dances", treasure hunts

use island or treasure icons for your invites and other accents ( a treasure chest filled with your favors and surrounded by sand on a table would be awesome!, note in the bottle programs, golden chocolate coins on the dessert table, a pirate or island inspired cake, capture the flag game during the recession ( have it hidden somewhere and create a paper-guessing game for the adolecents or kids to play while the adults " party", x marks the spot kissing spot…

Here’s a fairy wedding done by a man who is obbsessed with peter pan.. it might give you some more ideas
