Is my 7 yr. old daughter to old for decorating her room w/ disney characters?

My daughter wants her room decarated with Disney character’s. I think she’s getting to old for characters like Cinderella and Tinker Bell, but maybe it’s ok to use High School Musical and Hanna Montanna as a theme for her room.

Not at all. I’m 23 and I still watch cartoons! And I know college students who put Tinker Bell stickers on their car windows.

Remember, it’s her room and she has to look at it every day. It is her sanctuary. It should reflect her personality and preferences. Listen to what she wants and let her know that her opinions matter. Even to a 7 year old, it’s really important.

But like most kids, her tastes may change. From a financial stand point, changing everything in a room would be draining every few years. I wouldn’t invest in expensive wall paper or themed carpeting. Try painting her room in a neutral color or better yet, her favorite color. Then, add a rug, framed pictures, posters, a bed comforter and figurines that go with her current theme. As she gets older, she may want switch out the some of the posters and the bedding. They won’t be expensive to replace!

Let her be active in choosing the theme and decorations for her room. It’s a great bonding experience and a self-confidence builder.

Good luck!

I think you are making her grow up too fast. I would not tell a 7 year old that she is too old for anything but a bottle or pacifier.

Let her do it. I have a 7 year old as well, she loves all those shows. What is more wholesome then the princess characters? Miley Cyrus? Troy? Let her do it. Lots of paint colors to match as well.

You should feel lucky that your child is not trying to act older than her age! If Disney characters are what she likes, then that’s what she should decorate her room with!

    She’s absolutly not to old!!
I’m in college now and Disney characters are in. The classic one though like Cinderella, Belle, Aurora, and Jasmine. You cant get to old for the classics.

Heck, NO, I have a daughter who is in her 20’s and thinks that a Disney theme is a great idea for a room. When she was in her teens it was all about Pooh, so, no, Go ahead and decorate in those animated characters. What a GREAT way to wake up in the morning!

Disney is way cooler than High School Musical or Hanna Montanna. If she wants her room decorated with Disney characters, then I think you should let her because that is what she is in too, and 7 is definitely not too old. =]

I love Tinkerbell. And have for 15 years (since age9)

If that’s what she wants, let her do it she’s not too old for it, but to be safe have a serious discusion that she will not be able to repaint her room for x ammount more years, so she needs to give it serious thought. she night not like tinkerbell in 4 years when she’s 11, or maybe she will.

Approach it like shes mature and can make her own decision and you’ll support her.

Let your child be a child. The day will come and she won’t be a little girl anymore.
Childhood is the time to enjoy all the wonderful Disney characters; she is actually learning and developing from heroes and heroines at this stage, and positive character reinforcement is good for all concerned.

PS: The Disney characters and stories are also character building for people of all ages: ex: Pinnochio

Cinderella and Tinker Bell are classic disney characters. If your daughter still appreciates them, that’s something to encourage. Allow her to express herself the way she wants to.

I don’t find seven too old for loving Disney characters, heck, I have a friend who’s in High School who has a room decorated with Disney stuff. She loves it!

It sounds like you want her to grow up too fast, and to get what you *think* she’ll like better. Let her choose what she wants, it’s perfectly fine. As one of the other answers stated; you can get the room painted in her favorite color and go with themed bedding and figurines. They’re easier to remove when she no longer wants them.

I think it has less to do with how old she is and more to what extend this decorating might go. If you are talking about some wall hangings and new bedding.. it may not be a big deal since she’ll probably grow out of the Disney princess phase soon anyway. But, if you are talking about an all out room transformation.. then maybe going for something else might be a better idea since her taste is likely to change in a year or so. ( My son is 9 and insists on a Wrestling theme.. which makes me cringe.. so I understand.) So, I’m opting for a few small wrestling touches that I can change out easily when he (hopefully) grows out of it. LOL Good Luck.

You asked, you got your answer.

Just ask her what characters she wants and you can pick them out together.

High School Musical and Hanna Montanna are your choices not your daughters. If you try to convince her of your ideas, she may say yes, but I can tell you she won’t be happy.

You can use those see through stickers that you can pull off when she’s ready for something else. Try for large sizes. They can be changed and moved around when ever you want to. She could even have some fun moving them around.

Just go along with what she wants. Other wise she’ll be disappointed and you’ll have to listen to the. constant complaining. She only 7 years old. Let her have it this time around.

Let her be involved as much as possible.

    Good Luck

I think that she might regret the cinderella theme when she grows up, but tinkerbell is loved by all! High School Musical or Hanna Montana would be fine also :]
