Why do the Disney princesses have no mothers?

I was watching a few Disney movies with my kid cousins, and i noticed that the Disney princesses have no mothers.

Disney had always felt that the loss of a mother was extremely painful and created a void that could not really be filled.

In fact, hercules is a rare example of any lead charater with a full set of parents (and in his case, two full sets)

because for a while movies were portraying kids with no fathers.. so there was a shift in stories to show strong single fathers..it happened all across the board, not just disney. also there is a strong tendency to think of princesses as daddy’s girls.

There are only like 3 Disney movies where the main character’s have their parents.

    The Lion King
    Peter Pan
    Mulan
    Sleeping Beauty

    Mulan had a mother.
I agree with the first post tho. Princesses are often seen as the apple of their father’s eye, and thus it’s just best to keep them that way, without mothers.
